The diagnostic yield of open biopsy was compared among three culture media, namely, blood culture bottles, swab culture using transport media, and tissue culture using plain tubes, while considering preoperative antibiotic exposure.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Causative bacteria were identified in 84.2% of all cases. Blood culture bottles had the highest positivity rate (83.5%), followed by swab cultures (64.4%) and tissue cultures (44.9%). The differences in positivity rates were significant (P < 0.001).
