Abstract

Satellite communication (SatCom) demands a dual-band circularly polarized (CP) antenna with dual-orthogonal rotation. This letter proposes a new frequency selective reflecting surface that transforms a linearly polarized (LP) wave to a CP wave at four discrete frequencies in the C- and X-bands. The dual-CP rotation of the reflected signal at each pair of frequencies can be utilized as uplink/downlink for C- and X-bands SatCom. Four LP-to-CP conversion frequencies are 6.8 and 7.44 GHz in the C-band and 9.92 and 11.12 GHz in the X-band. A prototype of the quad-band polarization converter was fabricated, with measured responses closely matching simulated results.
