Abstract

In this letter, we study the semi-full-duplex (SFD) mode with two users sharing the same resource block, where one user transmits signals for uplink transmissions and the other user receives signals for downlink transmissions. In general, since the downlink signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is higher than the uplink SNR, we propose an SFD approach that can borrow the downlink rate to balance the downlink and uplink rates based on incremental redundancy. The proposed SFD approach is analyzed to show that a fraction of the downlink rate can be effectively transferred to the uplink rate. In addition, the maximization of the uplink rate is considered.

IEEE Wireless Communications Letters publishes short papers in a rapid publication cycle on advances in the state-of-the-art of wireless communications. Both theoretical contributions (including new techniques, concepts, and analyses) and practical contributions (including system experiments and prototypes, and new applications) are encouraged. This journal focuses on the physical layer and the link layer of wireless communication systems.
