Abstract

Findings from a cross-sectional survey conducted in early 2023 suggest that adult gerontology primary care and family nurse practitioner programs led by faculty members with more progressive and/or less traditional views of sex and gender may be more likely to champion the integration of gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) into their program’s curriculum. Findings from this study underscore the potential impact of faculty beliefs on the education delivered to nurse practitioner students and highlights the need to work with adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner (AGPCNP) and family nurse practitioner (FNP) program leaders to equip future primary care providers to care for transgender and gender diverse (TGD) individuals in clinical practice.
