La diplopie est un réel handicap dans la vie quotidienne du patient, son étude est donc essentielle à sa bonne prise en charge. La réalisation du champ de fusion est l’examen le plus représentatif et le plus à même d’objectiver ce trouble ainsi que la gêne qui en découle pour le patient dans sa vie courante, en complément du bilan orthoptique classique de la diplopie.
