Abstract

Nowadays, terrestrial laser scanning of historic buildings provides new geometric data that may supplement or even overwrite the information found in the traditional literature on the topic. This article presents a laser-scanning-based, geometric typology of the connection between the rib system and webbing of Late Gothic net vaults and discusses the underlying building techniques. The article provides not only geometric descriptions but also 12 vaults as case studies to illustrate the different groups and to highlight how the base theoretical outcomes may vary due to the unique building features.
