Abstract

A little more than a year ago, the U.S. Supreme Court issued the most impactful ruling on religious accommodations in decades. Let's start with a little background for the case, which has implications for colleges and universities and other employers. Gerald Groff, a professed Christian and employee of the U.S. Postal Service declined to work on Sundays, citing his religious beliefs. USPS attempted to accommodate him by arranging for co-workers to exchange shifts, but there were multiple instances where employees weren’t available to trade.
