Abstract

A technology of forming a discrete diffusion oxide layer on the material surface is suggested. Research data for the metallographic and mechanical properties of alloyed construction steels subjected to discrete diffusion oxidation are presented. Mechanical investigations show that the microhardness of oxidized alloyed construction steel is five times higher than that of the as-prepared material and exceeds the microhardness of nitrided steel by a factor of 1.5. The rise in microhardness and rigidity is explained by the presence of iron oxide in the coating.
