THE is associated with a lower morbidity compared with the transthoracic approach, but much controversy exists on whether THE is a suitable operation for cancer, because it is not combined with en-bloc lymphadenectomy. However, overall, there are no statistical differences between the two. Abstract
In Transhiatal Esophagectomy(THE) two approaches can be used by the surgeon: abdominal and cervical, without thoracotomy.
