This study is justified by the growing social relevance attributed to creativity and its expression. It begins with the analysis of some concepts and perspectives on the phenomenon of creativity. Following, the occurrences of the term “creativity” and cognates in the BNCC are analyzed, relating its manifestations to the theoretical concepts discussed in the study. Finally, we emphasize that, despite the frequent use of terms such as “creative”, in the Portuguese Language sections of the BNCC, we do not find a systematic and critical approach to the theme, to the encouragement and development of creativity and creative expression. Creativity is linked, above all, to textual production, especially the construction of fictional narratives. In a socio-historical sense, it is treated in a pragmatic and immediate manner, being present only when demonstrated by results, that is, in the creation of processes and products that meet the demands. Abstract

The objective of this paper is to analyze the concepts of creativity that underlie the propositions given by the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) for the Portuguese Language curricular component.
