Abstract
It has been demonstrated that organisational citizenship behaviour (OCB) exhibited by nurses is critical to the effectiveness of healthcare organisations. As a consequence, research exploring determinants of nurses' OCBs has increased dramatically. Little attention, however, has been paid to how nurses' manifest needs affect their OCBs. Accordingly, in this study, we empirically examine the impact of the need for achievement, need for affiliation, and need for autonomy on nurses' OCBs. Two hundred and eleven nurses are analysed using multiple regression. Results illustrate that the need for achievement is a significant predictor of a nurse's OCB. Findings of this study may help healthcare administrators establish a work environment where nurses' OCBs are encouraged.
