Abstract

An instrument for the online monitoring of partial discharges becomes a more expensive investment option for generators of less than 100 MVA. For those machines, an economic unit of partial discharge measurements has been envisaged by simultaneously adopting a peak-detect-and-hold technique and an inherent analogue-to-digital (A/D) conversion function already embedded in a microprocessor or DSP (digital signal processor). This technique is named as hybrid conversion scheme.
