Abstract
Community workers are engaged for much of their time with groups – with groups of residents in the neighbourhood, as participants in discussions with service agencies and departments, or as members of staff groups in the community work project or area team. This chapter reviews some theories of group behaviour that community workers may find helpful in understanding the groups in which they work. It is divided into three parts, dealing with small group, intergroup and large group behaviour.
