Abstract
Objective
To observe the effect of phacoemulsification on ocular surface function in cataract patients with Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).
Methods
A prospective cohort study. Total of 81 eyes of 78 cases of cataract with MGD in Wenrong Hospital of Jinhua from Mar.2016 to Feb.2018 were enrolled in this study. All patients underwent phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation. The ocular surface function was observed and all cases were followed up for 3 months.
Results
The Schirmer test (SIt) and break up time (BUT) at 3 days after operation were higher than those at 1 day before operation (P 0.05), and no significant difference between 3 days after operation and 3 months after operation (P>0.05), and the difference was significant between 1 day before operation and 3 months after operation (P<0.05).
Conclusion
After phacoemulsification, ocular dysfunction still occurs in patients with cataract and MGD.No significant recovery occurrs after 3 months of follow-up.
