Throughout a long and troubled past Iraq has faced many dogmatic, circumspect, and social plights. Serious problems arising as a cause of these plights have caused many of the population to seek sanctuary and protection in other countries. As a result of this, the increase of refugees now inhabiting Eastern and Western countries becomes a focal point of the media. The way these refugees are depicted and perceived by the public as terrorists or victims in the host and non-host countries is heavily influenced by media reports and as such, they have a crucial role to play. The aim of this paper is to highlight the most significant linguistic choices coupled with the ideological point of view of the participants. To achieve this, the researcher analyses British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) news reports employing critical discourse analysis. Accordingly, the researcher employs Wodak's (2001; 2009) discourse-historical approach and van Leeuwen's (2008) sociological categories of actor representation approach. The findings of the analysis have revealed that in the Netherlands the Iraqi refugees are portrayed as victims targeted by hostile laws. In the USA they are portrayed as terrorists that threaten society. Under Trump’s administration seven Arab countries including Iraq have been denied entry. Furthermore, the way Iraqi refugees are described by the media is attributed to the use of generic references. Despite the negative representation of Iraqi refugees by the Dutch government, USA policies, and the Iraqi government, the BBC’s media coverage continues to represent them in a neutral light.

Separation of powers is a hallowed constitutional principle of the democratic government of Nigeria for the three arms of government to stay in their assigned tracks to avoid arbitrary excesses by any of the arms. The ideal is that the legislature makes the law; the executive executes the law, while the judiciary interprets the law. In recent times, the president of Nigeria churns out Executive Orders in the form of ‘laws seeking to regulate the activities of the government and the people. Similarly, agencies of the federal government have been found wanting in this act. This paper thus revisits the doctrine of separation of powers in Nigeria with a view to justifying its practice and an examination of the emerging trends of Executive Order and independence of the judiciary. The paper finds that the practice of separation of powers is on course in Nigeria despite some pockets of arbitrariness and concludes that adherence to the principles of separation of powers remains a sine qua non to Nigeria’s successful democratic journey.

The objective of this article is to demonstrate the credibility of the pluralistic approach to aesthetic experience, mainly focused on Goldman's recent argument, in the case of Neo-Plastic paintings which is chosen as the most mature paradigm of pure abstract art created based on the premises of formalism. This article tries to clarify whether the spectator should realize the aesthetic value of pure abstract art based on a formalistic standpoint (as it has been commonly used), or a pluralistic mode: interactive and simultaneous involvement of all mental faculties namely perception, imagination, emotion, and cognition. To achieve the goals of this article, Mondrian's writings will be examined in light of two different viewpoints: formalists’ intuitive approach and Goldman’s pluralistic approach. At the end of this article, it becomes evident that although Mondrian, in several instances in his writings emphasizes the role of intuition in the creation and aesthetic perception of spiritual content (universal beauty as truth) of his Neo-Plastic art, his approach to aesthetic experience, similar to the recent argument of Goldman, is pluralistic; meaning that for appreciation of the aesthetic value of Neo-Plastic paintings all mental faculties, except imagination, are correlatively involved.

This paper seeks to examine the novel The Scarlet Letter, published in 1850, by Nathaniel Hawthorne through individualism/collectivism dichotomy, highlighting the major chasm between the harsh 17th-century puritan community that demands total conformity from its members and heroine’s incessant struggle for individualism. Based on qualitative research, the analysis starts with a short introduction of individualism/collectivism dichotomy. It subsequently highlights the intense clash arising from the puritan morality and the heroine’s determination to create her own moral rules. The study found out that Hester’s strength of character and support for the community help to abate the dichotomy between the two parties, which leads to a fair degree of mutual acceptance.

The need to save mangroves is growing, however, debasement has persisted for decades, because the processes of decision-making are inefficient, found solely on economic factors. This study provides a tool for mangrove conservation and management to explore the socio-cultural values of mangrove ecosystem services through research in Xuan Thuy National Park, one of nine Ramsars in Vietnam, and also an area heavily affected by shrimp farming. 150 households were selected for an interview, 5 focus group discussions in 5 buffer zone communes, 10 in-depth interviews were carried out to find out the ecosystem services that mangroves provide, compared with literature review, and 3 cultural services listed by the local people as the characteristics of the mangroves here are lifestyle change, strengthening family relationship, implicit division of labor in the community. This proves that local people are ambassadors connecting the mangroves and the government. This finding suggests that the socio-cultural aspect of mangrove services should be deliberated by policymakers as a measure of great concern when facing the challenges of wetland ecosystem conservation.

Indian society is known as multi-lingual, multi-religious, multi-castes, and multi-cultural in nature. Indian constitution gives equal rights to everyone regardless of gender, caste, class, community, language, and religious beliefs but it has been observed that caste plays an ascriptive role in Indian society since it divides society in a stratified manner which designates and promotes the hierarchical dogmatism and a sense of superiority to its lower caste. This creates discontent and disharmony in the society which becomes a crucial factor to nourish the disintegration in the society. The current study aimed to describe the impact of the divisive nature of caste on social integration in India. This empirical study included 216 respondents. The descriptive and explorative methodology was applied to achieve the results. To find out the principal factors that determine social disintegration due to caste impression in India, the data were analyzed by the SPSS version 26. The finding of the study provided that the divisive nature of the caste really hurts the societal integration power of India.

Employees are expected to be at work on time and perform their tasks to be productive. Otherwise, it is a performance issue, unauthorized absenteeism, or loafing. It is not only prevalent in private entities but also in government agencies. The Civil Service Commission (CSC) in the Philippine context is a government agency that discouraged loafing during work hours and limits the use of official time for non-related government tasks. The study utilized an observational research technique using a single case method where the participant was closely observed in the most natural settings in the workplace. The study investigates the performance of the employee and shows solutions to how the management addressed the issue. This case study presents an instance wherein an employee was reported by his co-employee (an informant) who committed loafing or frequent unauthorized absences from duty during office hours. Three alternative solutions are offered. First, refer the case to the Human Resource Management Officer who is a trained adjudicator, mediator, and conciliator. Second, determine the root cause of the problem and suggest an alternative course of action; and third, instead of imposing a harsh penalty of suspension or dismissal as the case may be, it would be appropriate for the management to subject the problem employee to an intervention program. There is a need to act with compassion and justice to ensure no repetitive action that may happen in the future.

Metaverse tokens belong to a virtual world that has recently emerged and their growth potential is of interest to numerous parties. Theoretically, the number of ecosystems may increase infinitely. However, strong financing and technological backing are required for the survival of the projects. Thus, various factors may influence these tokens’ returns. How these tokens’ returns are affected by each other is analyzed via a multi-regression model. ENJIN returns are found to be the sole factor in MANA returns for our sample (99%). The remaining results of the study indicate that returns of metaverse tokens are interrelated when everything else is held constant and trading volumes have an impact on these returns. The future for these ecosystems may depend on various factors and they are discussed in the light of literature as well.
