Optical wireless networks using self-powered nodes 使用自供电节点的光无线网络

A network of ultra-low power consumption communications nodes is presented. A base station illuminates small retro-reflecting nodes with a low-divergence beam of light. This powers the node, and also allows information to be transmitted to it. A modulated retro-reflector on the node then returns information to the base station. Design aspects, and results from the implementation are detailed in the paper.

Imaging spectroscopy with a multi-aperture camera 多光圈相机成像光谱学

A new type of spectroscopic sensitive camera was used in a clinical trial at the National Rehabilitation Hospital aimed at monitoring the healing process of several types of skin wounds. Results showed significant increase in oxygen saturation related to a decrease in wound size.

We present a vertical integration approach for designing silicon photonic networks for communication in manycore systems. Using a top-down approach we project the photonic device requirements for a 64-tile system designed in 22 nm technology.

We demonstrate a novel scheme to improve receiver sensitivity of using a fiber optical parametric amplifier. The power penalty can be improved by 3.9 dB and the receiver sensitivity can achieve -42 dBm when BER = 10-9.

Semiconductor quantum dots are promising systems for robust and scalable quantum information processing. Ultrafast sequences of coherent quantum operations may be envisioned with femtosecond light pulses, if the involved quantum states are separated by at least tens of meV. Therefore, small quantum dots with high confinement potentials are favourable. Due to their large Coulomb correlation energies, CdSe quantum dots are ideal candidates.

We show that the channel rate of CO-OFDM systems can scale well beyond multi-Tb/s, only bounded by the available optical amplifier bandwidth. However, the benefit of high-spectral efficiency is diminished at these ultra-high channel rates.

Widely tunable (30 nm) fiber laser based on a dual Sagnac loop mirror configuration is demonstrated. Dual output port operation is accomplished by proper adjustment of the loop mirror reflectivity allowing for +9 dBm output power.

Femtosecond Yb fiber lasers 飞秒镱光纤激光器

Passively mode-locked ultrafast ytterbium fiber lasers operating in the wavelength range around 1 mum are subject of intensive investigations during the past years owing to their great potential of realizing cost-effective and compact set-ups [1]. Particularly all-fiber based laser systems are highly suited for the development of reliable, alignment free and low noise laser sources [2]. In this contribution, we will report on two different approaches of providing those ultrafast fiber lasers. A first one is based on a dispersion managed cavity by using a higherorder-mode fiber (HOMF) [3] and the second one consists of an all-normal dispersion fiber oscillator applying spectral filtering for pulse stabilization [4].
