A multiplier-free phase estimation algorithm for coherent QPSK detection is presented. The barycenter approach is modified by a selectivity mechanism that improves performance. In addition to recently published measurement results, theoretical derivations and simulation results are provided.

We report a robust, all-fiber amplifier seeded by a fiber oscillator. Seed pulses at 1 MHz repetition rate are amplified up to 3 muJ, delivering 1 muJ-energy, 170 fs-long pulses. Duration reduces to 120 fs at 1 muJ amplifier output. These are the highest peak powers from an integrated fiber source.

Here, we have used the temperature-dependant form of the Boltzmann occupation factors, absorption and stimulated cross sections, and thermal conductivity of the Yb:YAG crystal for a more accurate consideration of various operating variables important for a typical thin-disk laser. A Monte Carlo ray tracing based code and 2D finite element analysis (FEA) with the ANSYS package have been used to calculate the absorption power and temperature distribution inside the crystal, respectively. Then, according to derived equations from a set of coupled rate equations, we have modeled the laser output power.

In this report we have presented a spectroscopic and CW laser characterization of an efficient thulium doped GPNG bulk germanate glass pumped at 792 nm by Ti: Sapphire radiation. Laser characterization gave a maximum slope efficiency of 50 % comparable to the crystalline counterparts and we believe, to the best of our knowledge, this being the best for Tm-doped bulk glass lasers. The maximum output power was of 190 mW with a 4 % OC for -500 mW of absorbed power. In this report we can confirm that Germanate glass proved a good host for 2 mum Tnr+ lasers as suggested by G. Turri et al.[9]. Given that Germanate materials possess nonlinear refractive indexes around ~ 40 x 10"16 cm2/W [10] (approximately one order of magnitude higher that the ~ 3 x 10"16 cm2/W of the Ti:Sapphire[ll]) yielding pronounced Kerr lens susceptibilities, when combined with their broad tunability further suggests that they have good potential for ultrashort pulse operation.
