Abstract We aimed to investigate the relationship between maternal gatekeeping and father involvement in caring for and supporting children with special needs aged between 3 and 6 years (n = 255 couples). Data were collected using the Maternal Gatekeeping Scale–Mother Form and the Father Involvement Scale. We found that maternal gatekeeping and father involvement differed according to the child’s gender and diagnosis but did not differ according to the child’s age. In addition, we determined that father involvement significantly and negatively correlated to mothers’ discouraging behaviors but significantly and positively correlated to mothers’ encouraging behaviors.

Abstract The purpose of this study is to compare the differences between Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) student perceptions of (a) types of praise used by MFT supervisors, (b) MFT students’ self-theory of intelligence, and (c) MFT students’ continued development of skills. Four hypotheses were tested stating that different types of praise used by MFT supervisors would have a significant effect on MFT supervisees’ development of skills. Two MANCOVAs were performed, which revealed that therapists praised for their efforts significantly continued to improve their professional skills, while others praised for their ability significantly reduced their efforts in upgrading clinical skills.

Abstract We assessed the relationship between social support, spousal support, parental stress, life satisfaction, gender and parental role satisfaction. The participants included 676 parents (aged between 21 and 79 years old. The research outcomes indicated social support, spousal support, parental stress, life satisfaction and gender (female) predicted 31.7% of the total variance in Parental Role Satisfaction in Turkish context. The most significant predictor of parental role satisfaction was parental stress, which explained 21.6% of the total variance. Other significant predictors included spousal support, which explained another 6%, and social support, predicting 2.6%. Life satisfaction and gender were also important predictors.
