Abstract: Theories suggest that nasal polyps occur as a result of chronic inflammation of the nasal and sinus mucosa. Eosinophils are the main inflammatory cells found in nasal polyp tissue. The severity of nasal polyps can be seen from the CT Scan of the Paranasal Sinus (PNS) using the Lund-Mackay score. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of the eosinophil count of nasal polyp tissue and the Lund-Mackay score of CT Scan PNS of nasal polyps patients in Arifin Achmad Hospital, Riau Province. Examination of the eosinophil count was carried out microscopically using histopathological preparations of nasal polyp tissue with semiquantitative assessment, and Lund-Mackay score was assessed from the CT Scan of the PNS. From the 14 samples collected, there were 8 men (57.1%) more than 6 women (42.9%) with an average age of 30.43 ± 17.36 years old. Eosinophil counts were obtained in 5 (35,7%) samples 1/2+, 5 (35.7%) samples 1+, and negative in 4 samples (28,6%). While the Lund-Mackay score obtained an average value of 10.21 ± 6.87 with a low category in 11 (78.6%) and high in 3 (21.4%) samples. Patients with high Lund-Mackay scores tend to have higher eosinophil counts which reflect a more severe degree of disease severity in nasal polyps. Keywords: Eosinophil; Lund-Mackay Score; Nasal polyp; Paranasal sinus

Abstract: Sarcoma botryoides, or embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma, is soft tissue sarcoma arises from embryonic muscle cells and normally present with discharge, bleeding, or a visible mass at the vaginal introitus in infants and children. Aim of this study is to report a case of cervical sarcoma botryoides. Method used is a Case report. A 16-year-old girl, nulliparous, complained abnormal vaginal bleeding and a protruding vaginal mass. Patient underwent first surgery, mass recurrent five months later. The second surgery was performed by cervical amputation and neocervix creation using Sturmdorf sutures technique. Postoperative week 12 demonstrated a healthy neocervix in appearance, her menses have resumed, indicated patency. She has no evidence of disease 3 months after diagnosis. Cervical sarcoma botryoides is a rare malignancy. Clinicians must thoroughly examine any polyp or mass protrudes from vagina. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential for better prognosis. Sarcoma botryoides has a much improved prognosis with multimodality treatment. To determine the long-term survival and future potential fertility outcome, larger study and longer follow-up are needed. Keywords: sarcoma, botyroides, embryonal, rhabdomyosarcoma, neocervix

Abstract: Interstitial cystitis is a chronic pain condition with unclear underlying etiology. Interstitial cystitis has a relation with psychological disorders. There has been an increase in visit patients diagnosed with interstitial cystitis at the urology clinic at Dr. H. Moch. Ansari Saleh Hospital since October 2020. The objectives of this study are to compare mental emotional disorder events in interstitial cystitis patients and control subjects and to determine the relationship between interstitial cystitis and the incidence of mental emotional disorders. included 62 subjects, classified into 2 groups, namely: patients diagnosed with interstitial cystitis based on medical records data at the Urology Clinic, Dr. H. Moch. Ansari Saleh Hospital, and control subjects who had never been diagnosed with interstitial cystitis and had no symptoms and complaints of interstitial cystitis. Both groups completed the Self Reporting Questionnaire SRQ-20 to assess the presence of mental emotional disorders. The incidence of mental emotional disorders in interstitial cystitis patients and controls were compared, and the odds ratios (OR) for the presence of a mental emotional disorder were determined. A total of 32 patients with interstitial cystitis and 30 controls were included in this study. There were 14 interstitial cystitis patients and 4 control subjects who had mental emotional disorders, respectively, and the difference was significant (p = 0.008). Patients with interstitial cystitis were 5 times more at risk of experiencing mental emotional disorders than the control group (OR = 5,056). Patients with interstitial cystitis have a significantly higher risk of experiencing mental emotional disorders compared to those without interstitial cystitis. Screening might be beneficial to assess their mental emotional health. It may be necessary to collaborate with a psychiatrist to treat these patients holistically. Keywords: Interstitial cystitis; Mental emosional disorder

Abstract: Malnutrition due to protein deficiency disrupts the neurogenesis process that affects cell development and brain function. One of the efforts to overcome the matter is to use the pasak Bumi (Eurycoma longifolia Jack) which has compounds believed to increase the process of neurogenesis. The aim of study to analyze the effect of pasak bumi extract on the expression of NPCs (Tuj-1) and PPARγ cell in the brains of malnourished rats. Groups of experimental animals that were were divided into 5 groups, namely (P1) malnourished rats + placebo (aquades); (P2) malnourished rats + pasak bumi extract (EPB) 7,5 mg/kg BW; (P3) malnourished rats + EPB 15 mg/kg BW; (P4) malnourished rats + EPB 22,5 mg/kg BW; (P5) malnourished rats + EPB 30 mg/kg BW. As a control, normal rats were used which were given a placebo. Parameters examined include Tuj-1 and PPARγ using immunohistochemistry procedure. The results showed that the P3 group (15 mg/kg BW) had more cells expressing Tuj-1 than the other doses. There was a significant difference between the KP and the P3, P4, and P5 groups. There was no significant difference in the expression of PPARγ in all malnourished groups with EPB and KN intervention. Conclusion: extract of pasak bumi was able to improve the neurogenesis process in malnutrition but not PPARγ. Keywords: Malnutrition, pasak bumi extract, NPCs, Tuj-1, PPARγ

Abstract: Post-operative infection is still one of the most common nosocomial diseases that can cause great losses because it will increase the length of stay, use of drugs, and reduce the quality of life of the patients. The risk will increase if the number of colonies is> 105 bacteria per gram of tissue. Various ways have been done to reduce the number of bacteria in the operation area, including the use of surgical gloves. This study analyzed the comparison of the level of bacterial colonies that grew on the surface of single, double, and orthopedic surgical gloves in closed fracture management for more than 2 hours at Hasan Sadikin Hospital. The statistical analysis was done with p-value = 0.011 (<0.05), which means a significant difference in the number of germ colonies that grow between single, double, and orthopedic gloves. Double gloves and orthopedic gloves have a better ability to reduce bacterial colony growth. Meanwhile, there was no significant difference in the number of bacterial colonies formed between double gloves and orthopedics. Perforation is a factor affecting the number of germ colonies that formed. The use of double gloves and orthopedic gloves in closed fracture surgery for more than 2 hours shows the number of bacterial colonies formed is less than single gloves. There was a significant difference in the rate of perforation between standard surgical gloves and orthopedic gloves. Abstract: As many as 7 – 12% of the world's population has chronic kidney disease (CKD). CKD patients can experience various complications, one of which is anemia. Anemia can cause a variety of cardiovascular complications in CKD patients. Enforcement of the diagnosis of anemia and its type is carried out by laboratory examination, among others by examination of reticulocytes-hemoglobin (ret-he) and iron status such as serum ferritin. Examination of these parameters can help in planning the right treatment for CKD patients who have anemia. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of Ret-he with ferritin levels in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis at PKU Bantul Hospital. This study used cross-sectional method. The data source used was secondary data obtained from medical records and the Indonesian Renal Registry (IRR). Sampling research used consecutive sampling method. The analysis used univariate analysis which was frequency distribution table, and bivariate analysis. Univariate analysis obtained that average levels of ret-he from 50 subjects was 28.87 ± 3.75 pg and median serum ferritin levels were 118,1 (9,76 – 1615) mL. Bivariate analysis with pearson correlation test found a significant correlation between serum ret-he and ferritin levels (r = 0.498, p = 0.000).There was a significant correlation between he-ret levels and serum ferritin levels Keywords: chronic kidney disease, anemia, reticulocytes-hemoglobin, serum ferritin.

Abstract: Amyand’s hernia is described in the inguinal hernia sac as being the presence of an appendix vermiformis. It is a rare condition the incidence is about 1 per cent of all inguinal hernias. It is often diagnosed incidentally during inguinal hernia surgery. The main treatment method of Amyand’s hernia is surgery. We report a case of 63 years old man who presented with right inguinal groin bulge for 1 month with the previous repaired right inguinal hernia 5 years ago. On clinical examination revealed a 6 cmx8 cm firm, nontender, irreponible mass in the right inguinal region. He was diagnosed as right sided irreponible inguinal hernia. He was undergoing the elective surgery. Intra-operative, the hernia sac was laterally found in the inferior epigastric vessels and separated from sperm cord to deep inguinal ring. The hernia sac was opened. A non-inflamed appendix was seen. Appendectomy was performed, and the hernia was repaired by Halsted’s repair. Amyand’s hernia is a rare condition. The correct diagnosis is usually made intraoperative. Keywords: Amyand’s hernia, appendectomy, hernia repair, inguinal hernia.

Abstract: The use of medicinal plants to maintain or overcome health problems has long been carried out by worldwide community. Along with the development of knowledge, data about the existence of undesirable effects or side effects associated with the use of medicinal plants that are not appropriate are obtained. This research is conducted to determine public knowledge about the safety several medicinal plants use. The study was conducted with a questionnaire technique in Lombok Praya, Indonesia. The results show that knowledge about the safety of the use of medicinal plants in breastfeeding mothers obtains the correct answer by 48%, knowledge about the parts of medicinal plants that are dangerous for consumption by 39% and knowledge about medicinal plants that can increase health risks by 21%. Whereas, the knowledges for the use of medicinal plants in pregnant women and the use of medicinal plants that are not right obtains very good results with correct answers of 79% and 81%. Based on further interviews, these good results are obtained because they are supported more by traditional use of the plant that has already existed in the area. Public understanding of the safety of some medicinal plants in Lombok Praya is still lacking. It is necessary to add knowledge about the use of medicinal plants that requires special attention, especially on plants that are often used by people in the area. Local health agencies need to disseminate information on the safety of medicinal plants that is wider and more sustainable. Keywords: Community, medicinal plant, safety, public understanding.
