We examined the association between apathy and self-efficacy for health care provider interactions in 142 PWH. A composite score comprised of the apathy subscale of the Frontal Systems Behavioral Scale and the vigor-activation scale of the Profile of Mood States was used to measure apathy. Self-efficacy for health care provider interactions was measured using the Beliefs Related to Medication Adherence - Dealing with Health Professional subscale. Higher levels of apathy were associated with lower self-efficacy for health care provider interactions at a medium effect size, independent of mood disorders, health literacy, and neurocognition.
