New Techniques for the Measurement of Natural and Simulated Lightning Phenomena
Within the last few years new techniques have been developed for the measurement of natural and simulated lightning phenomena. These techniques have evolved from the need for increasingly accurate measurements of the electromagnetic effects of lightning as in regards to aircraft lightning protection. This need stems from the use of new technologies such as low power level solid state electronics in critical aircraft circuits and advanced composite materials in aircraft structures. This paper describes new techniques used to increase the accuracy of natural and simulated lightning measurements and describes techniques that are in development.
