Administration of 1-acetyl-3-phenylamidine thiocarbamide hydrochloride (APTH) 30 min before irradiation prevented this mortality. Irradiation eliminated neurosecretory material from the perikaryons of the supraoptic and paraventricular neurons, whereas APTH counteracted this action.
