«Las kenningar» (1933) de Jorge Luis Borges: la poesía escáldica islandesa en la encrucijada del ultraísmo y la poesía barroca

Uno de los primeros textos en que se materializó el interés de Borges por la literatura germánica medieval es «Las kenningar», un ensayo publicado en 1933 por Francisco Colombo en el que tratará de analizar un tipo singular de metáfora «los kenningar» que actúa como pilar estilístico fundamental de la poesía escáldica desarrollada en la literatura escandinava desde el siglo ix d. C. Dado que este análisis se circunscribe a un contexto de evolución desde su anterior poética ultraísta, el objetivo del presente artículo es dilucidar en qué medida su vinculación a este movimiento influye en la valoración de la poesía escáldica a la que dedica su ensayo «Las kenningar», considerando al mismo tiempo las reflexiones del autor que, en relación a ambos movimientos, recuperan ejemplos poéticos del Barroco español.Palabras clave: Borges, kenningar, poesía islandesa, ultraísmo, metáfora«Las kenningar» (1933), by Jorge Luis Borges: the skaldic poetry of Iceland in the crossroads between ultraism and baroque poetryAbstract: The Argentinian author Jorge Luis Borges was very interested in Germanic medieval culture, especially since the 1960s. Nevertheless, in 1933 he published an essay in which he analyses a singular kind of metaphor, the kenningar, an essential stylistic pillar of skaldic poetry developed in Scandinavian literature since the 9th century AD. Due to the fact that Borges’s analysis departs from his personal conception of ultraistic poetry, the purpose of this paper is to explain how his connections with Ultraism affect the author’s considerations about the skaldic poems that he examines in his essay entitled «Las kenningar». Our paper will also consider Borges’s reflections about Spanish Baroque literature concerning his explanation of the kenningar.Key words: Borges, kenningar, Icelandic poetry, Ultraism, metaphor
