Review of Error Sources in One-End Data Impedance-Based Fault Location Algorithms
Due to the expansion of the power systems over the last decades, the fault location process became more and more important. Accurate fault location can minimize the time of finding the location of a fault along the line by the inspection crew and thus to minimize the outage time of the faulted line with benefits in power system stability. In the paper there is presented a fault location algorithm widely used in real power systems and the major error sources that affects its precision. The fault location simulations obtained from a simulation model of a real network transposed in Matlab show that some error sources can be reduced in order to obtain better fault location estimations.
