Efficacy of the use of intravenous magnesium sulphate in the treatment of acute asthma in children and adolescents: an integrative review
The objective of this study was to analyze the main effects of intravenous magnesium sulfate for the treatment of severe acute asthma in children and adolescents. An integrative review was carried out using the descriptors “magnesium sulfate”, “severe asthma”, “children”, and “adolescents” in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. The inclusion criteria were full articles that portrayed the topic of intravenos use of magnesium sulphate in the treatment of severe acute asthma in children and adolescents, published between 2010 and 2018. The study was completed with 6 articles and the main effects observed were efficacy and decrease in the hospitalization rate of the pediatric patients, causing greater benefit to the patients studied in the last 7 years.
