The effect of temperature and dwelling time on the morphology and structure of Bi<sub>4</sub>Ti<sub>3</sub>O<sub>12</sub> powders was studied, in order to identify the optimum conditions for seed preparation. The chosen Bi<sub>4</sub>Ti<sub>3</sub>O<sub>12</sub> seeds were then added to PbTiO<sub>3</sub>-based matrices (Bi<sub>0.5</sub>Fe<sub>0.5</sub>Pb<sub>0.47</sub>La<sub>0.03</sub>Ti<sub>0.5</sub>O<sub>3+x</sub>) to produce Bi<sub>4</sub>Ti<sub>3</sub>O<sub>12</sub> oriented BFPT ceramics by tape casting.
