Development of Energy Efficiency Standard and Regulation for Electric Motors in Thailand
This paper presents the overview of the international standards and domestic regulations for energy-efficiency of electric motors and its systems and global trend of minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) for electrical motors, survey the motor’s market, energy efficiency potential of electrical motors in Thailand and recommend for the energy efficiency standard and regulation development for electric motor MEPS initial regulation and long term policy for electric motor MEPS regulations. This standard is developed technical committee and approved by Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) executive board to mandatory standard. Recently, this standard is in the process of being declared a mandatory standard. Therefore, after this regulation is issued, all individual three phase induction motors in this scope of standard shall be approved by this standard. Therefore, if there is an energy policy to control the energy efficiency of the electric motor or the announcement of an electric motor to be a mandatory standard will be able to reduce electricity consumption from electric motors by 20% in 2025 and 30% in 2030.
