After the McKee’s report on the poor result as high as 50% of failure rate during 15 years follow-up in 1972, the use of metal on metal articulation was decreased. Metal on metal articulation had a major problem focusing on aseptic loosening which shortened the longevity of the prosthesis. So, second generation metal on metal articulation to reduce polyethylene debris which increased osteolysis and total amount of wear rate was developed.
