Algorithms for channels assignment in 802.11 networks
Channels assignment is a very important problem in 802.11 networks. The reason lies in interference issue. The critical frequency band is the 2.4 GHz band, where the number of channels is insufficient and only three channels of number 1, 6 and 11 are almost free of inter-channel interference. There are some methods of calculating interference; however, these methods are difficult to be used by ordinary users. High number of small networks over a small area, e.g. a block of flats, can reduce or significantly diminish the available throughput. In the paper, the authors analyze the possibility of the effective channel selection method in a chaotic environment. Two algorithms for channel selection on the plane are proposed and discussed. The channel selection using the proposed algorithms is performed for example network distributions.
