Biometric Technologies for eLearning: State-of-the-Art, Issues and Challenges
In the recent past, the use of learning management systems has increased as these enable remote education via electronic media, i.e. eLearning. The use of such platforms was further elevated by needs for eLearning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to achieve secure and reliable identity management in eLearning systems, biometric technologies are increasingly deployed for remote student authentication. Numerous researchers proposed concepts and methods on how to effectively integrate biometric recognition into eLearning. This work provides a conceptual categorisation and survey regarding the state-of-the-art of biometric technologies for eLearning along with a detailed discussion on open issues and challenges in this emerging field of research.
