Critical Care and Anaesthesia

This chapter on critical care including anaesthesia contains five clinical Short Answer Questions (SAQs) with explanations and sources for further reading. Whether local or general, anaesthetics are used in a huge number of hospital procedures, and which type is best for the patient can depend on many different factors. Rapid sequence induction and intubation, the use of anaesthetics for conscious sedation (including propofol), nerve blocks (such as fascia iliaca block), intraosseous needle use, and procedural sedation are all covered in this chapter. The cases described here are all situations any emergency doctor is likely to encounter at some point in his or her career.
