Quality Control of Veterinary Pharmaceuticals Quality control is a term used to describe a very important aspect of pharmaceutical manufacture. It is at the same time an aspect of which many of us are almost completely unaware and yet one which affects the success or failure of every medicinal treatment. Quality control might be defined as those analytical procedures which must be performed on samples of every production lot or run of a drug to ensure that the identity, potency, stability and availability of the active ingredients conform to that claimed on the -label. The performance of these tests may require costly analytical techniques and instrumentation and may represent as much as 10 to 15 per cent of the cost of the finished drug. Nevertheless they are an integral part of drug manufacture and essential if the veterinarian and in turn the farmer or other animal owner is going to receive the value for which he has paid.
