The influence of natural characteristics and rock formation of the area are the most influential factors for the differences in the composition (chemical and physical) of groundwater in the study area. Shaqlawa (1488.5 km2) is located in the center of the Erbil governorate and is highly dependent on underground water for daily consumption. Therefore, the aim of the current study is to study the quality, especially the chemical and physical characteristics, and the suitability of underground water in this area.In this study, we have analyzed groundwater quality for more than (70) wells in the area, as a result of comparing the analyzing water with the standard water quality, the research concluded that majority of underground water in this area are suitable for human daily consumption. In addition, the research determined a sample map of distribution of groundwater in the area. The research also found that only (5.2%) of the total groundwater is of poor quality and unsuitable for daily consumption.
