Management of pediatric emergencies during natural disasters: The 2023 earthquake in Turkey

The earthquake that occurred in the southeastern region of Türkiye on February 6, 2023 resulted in extensive destruction, affecting 11 provinces and causing a death toll of almost 50,000 individuals. This review emphasizes the unique vulnerabilities that children face in the aftermath of earthquakes and stresses the significance of having preparedness plans specifically tailored to their needs. It is crucial to provide immediate emotional support to children and help them restore their normal routines in order to ensure their well-being. Additionally, emergency nutrition care and mental health services play a vital role in maintaining their long-term health. The disruption of healthcare services also increases the risk of infectious diseases, underscoring the urgency of vaccination efforts. It is crucial that healthcare providers should undergo training and collaborate with each other to adopt a comprehensive approach to pediatric disaster care.
