Identical radiological and clinical pre‐diagnostic findings of a mucor fungus ball with uncommon histopathological appearance
The present case is a valuable sample revealing a noninvasive mucor fungus ball (FB)'s etiological factors and radiologic characteristics. The hemifacial pain complaint of the patient was started following the development of type II diabetes. A homogenous and partial radiopacity was radiologically monitored in the left maxillary sinus. An FB in the necrotic background, primarily originating from mucor, was histopathologically diagnosed. A 1‐year follow‐up was completed uneventfully.Diabetes could trigger a symptomatic mucor FB development. Practitioners should be aware of a mucor FB existence if a partial homogenous radiopacification is seen in the maxillary sinuses.
