Two-dimensional coordination polymer of ytterbium(ii) with a 1,3-bis(pyridin-4-yl)propane linker

The reaction of the complex [(dpp-bian)2−Yb2+(THF)4] (dpp-bian is 1,2-bis[(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imino]acenaphthene) with two molar equivalents of 1,3-bis(pyridin-4-yl)propane (bpp) in tetrahydrofuran (THF) afforded the 2D coordination polymer [{(dpp-bian)Yb(bpp)2} • 3 THF]n (1). The reaction of [(dpp-bian)2−Yb2+(DME)2] with phenazine (phz) gave the dimeric complex [{(dpp-bian)Yb(DME)}2(μ-η33-phz)] • 2 DME (2), in which two cationic {(dpp-bian)Yb(DME)} units are connected via a bridging phenazine dianion. Compounds 1 and 2 were characterized by elemental analysis and IR spectroscopy. Their molecular structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Thermal stability of compound 1 was studied by thermogravimetric analysis.
