A novel method to prepare a hapten to generate anti-hapten immunity without covalent conjugation to a carrier was developed. Coating both water-soluble and -insoluble haptens onto a nitrocellulose membrane effectively presented haptens to the system and caused the generation of specific anti-hapten B lymphocytes and antibodies by immunization both in vitro and in vivo.
