Nonetheless, there is a wealth of useful material here for anyone wishing to grapple with these issues and, for that reason alone, this volume should be required reading for all trainee music teachers. It is also strongly recommended for all current practitioners and educational policymakers, so it is particularly regrettable that, at £110, it may prove discouragingly expensive—unless, of course, they have access to an institutional library or Oxford Handbooks Online (for the e-book version). This is a shame, as it deserves to be widely read and reflected upon.
