Sleep disorders and their consequences for doctors

The awareness of the problem of sleep disorders among doctors does not protect this professional group against the condition. Being a doctor requires exceptional work skills under high pressure of responsibility for human life, the ability to cope with stress, work at night and the need to meet the requirement of continuous training. Studies have shown adverse health consequences for this occupational group, increased consumption of alcohol and drugs, as well as serious medical errors related to both sleep deprivation and night work. The aim of the publication is to discuss possible causes of sleep disorders in doctors and the multidimensional consequences of the problem.
