Implementation of an interdisciplinary cultural competence training with law enforcement personnel
ABSTRACT This article examines an eleven-module interdisciplinary cultural competence (ICC) training adapted for a local law enforcement agency in the wake of police-community violence. A mix-methods designed was utilized to explore the applicability of the ICC training for two cohorts of law enforcement. Quantitative findings indicate that the ICC training significantly improved participants’ cultural competence. Qualitative analyses illustrated that the training significantly influenced participants’ professional perspectives; empowered them; enhanced their awareness; and was beneficial for institutionalizing cultural competence into the overall organization.
