The Disintegration of the Russian Army in 1917

The article presents an analysis of the complex and contradictory process of the disintegration of the Russian army, which took place during the last year of World War I and was accompanied by revolutionary events in 1917 and early 1918. The main assessments of this phenomenon in the historiography are described. The author argues that the prerequisites for the decay were caused by a number of social features of the Imperial army while signs of the disintegration could be seen during the entire war. The events of the revolution and the development of the political struggle in the army only facilitated disintegration and made it irreversible.
