The book contains a useful index and is richly illustrated with 64 colored plates; especially helpful are the photographs of churches that shaped or expressed Newman’s aesthetic vision. Father Nicholls’ significant contribution serves as a solidly researched yet readable introduction to Newman’s thought and at the same time opens new perspectives to those who already have some familiarity with this great saint of our time.
