Bulbine gondwanae N.H.G.Jacobsen & K.J.Koen. A new fynbos species (Asphodelaceae) from the Gondwana Game Reserve, Mossel Bay, Western Cape, South Africa

Summary: A new sweet-scented Bulbine species, B. gondwanae N.H.G.Jacobsen & K.J.Koen is described from the Gondwana Game Reserve near Mossel Bay in the Western Cape occurring in near sympatry with the similar B. lagopus (Thunb.) N.E.Br. A morphological comparison indicates that the new species differs from the latter despite both species growing in fynbos vegetation but differs in habitat and appears to have different flowering times. An assessment of posts on iNaturalist of both B. lagopus and B. abyssinica in order to locate possible misidentified plants of the novelty beyond the borders of the Game Reserve, failed. Zusammenfassung: Eine neue, süß duftende Bulbine-Art, B. gondwanae N.H.G.Jacobsen & K.J.Koen, die nahezu sympatrisch mit der ähnlichen B. lagopus (Thunb.) N. E. Br. vorkommt, wird aus dem Gondwana-Wildreservat in der Nähe von Mossel Bay im Westkap beschrieben. Ein morphologischer Vergleich zeigt, dass die neue Art von der letzteren unterschieden ist, und obwohl beide Arten in der Fynbos-Vegetation wachsen, unterscheiden sie sich durch ihre Lebensräume und anscheinend unterschiedliche Blühzeiten. Eine Auswertung der iNaturalistEinträge zu B. lagopus und B. abyssinica, um möglicherweise falsch bestimmte Pflanzen der Neuheit jenseits der Grenzen des Wildreservats ausfindig zu machen, schlug fehl.
