This study assessed the merits, demerits and barrier to implementation of BIM in the construction industry of Pakistan. Data collected form 42 practitioners involved in handling construction BIM based construction projects was analyzed statistically with average index method. The results showed that significant merits of the BIM as perceived by the practitioners are BIM helps in improving quality of Work; BIM is useful in controlling time and cost of the project; and helps in achieving client satisfaction. At the same time, the respondents mentioned BIM adds work for the designer and Interoperability as the significant demerits. Assessment regarding the barriers to BIM showed that top 3 common barriers are: lack of competent staff to operate the software; unawareness of the technology; and not ready to distort normal operational structure. 摘要近年来,建筑信息模型(BIM)作为一种建筑设计方法得到了广泛的应用。它在为任何项目构建之前提供必要的信息方面非常有用。BIM的实施已经证明了几个优点;然而,从业人员也报告了一些缺点和障碍,限制了BIM在建筑行业的采用。本研究评估了巴基斯坦建筑业实施BIM的优点、缺点和障碍。采用平均指数法对42名从事BIM施工项目的从业人员的数据进行统计分析。结果表明,从业人员认为BIM的显著优点是BIM有助于提高工作质量;BIM在控制项目的时间和成本方面很有用;并有助于实现客户满意度。同时,受访者提到BIM增加了设计师的工作和互操作性是显著的缺点。关于BIM障碍的评估显示,最常见的3个障碍是:缺乏有能力的人员来操作软件;对技术不了解;还没准备好扭曲正常的运作结构。这些发现将有助于从业者采取必要的措施来加强BIM在建筑行业的实施。
