‘Ich schweige nicht.’ Jürgen Fuchs als Schriftsteller im Widerstand. Ein Porträt

Jürgen Fuchs (1950–1999) war einer der in die DDR hineingeborenen Schriftsteller, deren Biographien sie nicht nur prägte, sondern auch wirksam deformierte; dabei aber einer der wenigen, die sich so sprachmächtig mit den Mechanismen eines totalitären Staates auseinandersetzten. Sein erfahrungsgesättigtes Schreiben ist eine literarische Antwort auf die Konfrontation mit dem SED-Regime. Da 2020 sich sein Geburtstag zum 70. Mal jährte, will der vorliegende Beitrag an seine künstlerische Leistung erinnern und veranschaulichen, was die Gegenwehr wie auch das Vordringen zur Wahrheit und Freiheit aus der Feder dieses in vieler Hinsicht unabhängigen Autors bedeutet. * 2020 marks the 70th anniversary of Jürgen Fuchs’s birth (1950–1999). He was one of those writers whose biographies were shaped and deformed by the SED regime and one of the few who eloquently exposed the mechanisms of the totalitarian state. Fuchs’s literary oeuvre is a testimony of his times as well as a confrontation with the communist regime and its Stasi records. Saturated with his own life experience, his writing takes the reader on a journey into the second German dictatorship, behind the scenes of the (post) socialist society. This article traces the literary development of Fuchs as an independent writer and examines his motivation not to remain silent, to strive for truth and justice, and to provoke debate.
