“We Have a Lot to Teach You and You Have a Lot to Teach Us”: The Forms of Changemaking Work Valued by LGBTQ+ Elders of Color

Abstract:This research explores the contributions of LGBTQ+ elders of color and their insights regarding how activists of all ages can affect meaningful change. In-depth interviews with a convenience sample of 11 respondents took place via Zoom as part of a larger national research project. Informed by Marxian theories and intersectionality, data analysis focused on the forms of change-making work respondents considered most important. Findings suggest that LGBTQ+ elders of color value change-making activities that provide (a.) opportunities for intergenerational collaboration, (b.) nurturance from friends and family, and (c.) contribute to a more just, inclusive world for all.
