Tips from the trenches

With all the changes and stresses of the past couple of years, coupled with the impact of fiscal uncertainties (such as still-unfilled positions from COVID-related layoffs), many libraries are continuing to deal with vacant positions and all that those situations entail. For every librarian, not just electronic resources librarians but also all your colleagues, we may be struggling. Besides the challenges of having additional responsibilities assigned to you, and trying to learn and succeed at all the tasks, you may be seeking guidance and support to accomplish everything. That being said, have you considered looking for a mentor/mentoring? Whether that mentor is part of a formal program or something more informal, there are benefits to having a support system of someone outside your immediate situation to turn to when you have questions, feel overwhelmed, or just want to vent.
