Antenatal psychosocial risk assessment project

This article describes a six-month State Government funded project conducted at a regional Victorian hospital. The aim of the project was to develop and introduce an antenatal risk assessment program to identify and manage psychosocially ‘at risk’ women and families. The results of the project indicate that the evidence-based assessment developed was acceptable to both expectant women and midwives. When compared with the trad-itional assessment it was also significantly better at identifying and referring women with risk factors.
