The book adds a great deal to our knowledge of the making of anthropological scholarship in the colonial era as well as the intellectual and personal sacrifices that often remain “hidden” but are nevertheless significant in shaping all scholarly endeavours. i highly recommend this volume as essential reading for researchers and students of African anthropology.
