Although oil and gas trade grew steadily as usual, cooperation in downstream industries, which was affected by the upheavals in the Middle East, was not entirely successful. Regarding energy issues, cooperation between China and the Middle East is the mainstream as China needs oil and gas from the Middle East and the Middle East needs the Chinese market, which is the foundation for bilateral cooperation. Protecting China’s Energy Interests in the Middle East
